FBI and police in Haiti are in contact with gang members.
The group that kidnapped 17 American and Canadian missionaries in Haiti has asked for more than $17 million in ransom payments. The kidnappers are members of a gang known as the 400 Mawozo, and both the FBI and Haitian police are in contact with them. According to Haitian Justice Minister Liszt Quitel, negotiations over the $1 million for each missionary in order to seek their release could take weeks.
The missionary hostages include staff from Christian Aid Ministries and members of their families. They were kidnapped after returning from a visit to a local orphanage on Saturday.
“We greatly appreciate the prayers of believers around the world,” said Christian Aid Ministries in a statement. The ministry, which is based in Ohio, has asked people of faith to join them in prayer for both the hostages and the kidnappers.
